  Simple is the hard part: connecting self-managed clusters to cloud services

  Cloud Connect lets self-managed Elasticsearch clusters consume specific Elastic Cloud services without taking on the operational overhead of running them. The visible UI was the easy part. The hard part was getting the underlying system, the implementation, and the user experience to fit together well, and aligning everyone involved on the approach. I used prototypes to explore options and to anchor those conversations. Shipped and in active use, with follow-on services extending the model.

  Building a design system from scratch in a complex B2B fintech

  TradeCore's product had grown faster than its foundation, and a design system wasn't a priority. I started one anyway, in the gaps between other work, and used the early progress to make the case. That work earned buy-in and the resources to finish it properly. I built it from scratch and brought two in-house designers and one external contractor through the rollout. The system improved consistency, sped up delivery, and gave engineering and design a shared way of working. Adopted across the existing product suite and remained the foundation for new products for several years.

  2,000+ permissions to ~200 user-facing groups, with zero changes to the data model

  The CRM's permissions had grown into a structure only engineers could navigate, which made every customer access setup a ticket for CS staff. Because the backend couldn't change, I needed to find a different approach. In the data structure, the namespaces caught my attention. They were there for technical reasons, but might also work as a way to organise the permissions for users. Engineering confirmed it was viable, and we built the matrix on that structure. Non-technical admins could configure access independently, and CS effort on customer setup dropped meaningfully.
